Modifying Smartphone Cameras for Near Infrared Imaging: Enabling Night Vision and Multispectral Capabilities 

Project Summary: This research investigates the viability of contemporary smartphones (such as Google Nexus 5x, Samsung S21 Plus, and iPhone 6s) as platforms for developing advanced mobile applications for color near-infrared (CIR) image analysis. Through the adaptation of smartphones or consumer-grade cameras to acquire CIR imagery, often without requiring specialized high-cost equipment, previously unobservable spectral information can be accessed, enabling novel mobile multispectral applications.
